Preparation of the manuscript

The text of Original, Review and Methodological Articles is limited to 7,000 words per article, excluding tables, figures and photograph legends. Commentaries should be no longer than 2,000 words. All sections of the manuscripts should be double-spaced on A4 (212 x 297 mm) paper with 2,5 cm margins. Use the normal, plain and font size 12 of Times New Roman for the text. Begin each section of the manuscript on a new page. All pages must be numbered consecutively. Scientific names of the genus and species should be in italic script. Give the full common and Latin name of each species of animal or plant, together with the authority for the name, at first mention in the main text, and in the title, and abstract. Units must be presented according to the International System of Units (SI).

Please arrange your manuscript for Original and Methodological Articles as follows (Review Articles and Commentaries may have a more flexible format):

-          Title page. Include a short and informative title (up to 60 characters including letters and spaces), affiliation(s) of the author(s), e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author. Words such as “study”, “work” and “investigation” should be avoided in the title.

-          Abstract. All papers, except Commentaries, should be preceded by an abstract including purpose of the article, basic information on the applied methods, main results and conclusions. The abstract must not exceed 300 words.

-          Key words. Four-seven key words in alphabetical order.

-          Introduction. The context for the study, the aim and the hypotheses being tested.

-          Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions.

To clarify the text, sub-headings may be used.

References in the text should indicate the author’s surname with the year of publication in brackets, e.g. (Kowalski 2001); (Kowalski and Kowalska 2001). If there are more than two authors, only the first should be named, followed by “et al.”. References cited together in the text should be arranged chronologically.

Results of statistical analysis should always be presented in full with F values, degrees of freedom and P values. Simple measurements of variability (e.g. standard error, standard deviation, confidence limits) should always accompany means.

-          Acknowledgements and any information concerning research grants, etc. (if applicable).

-          References. References at the end of the paper should be listed in alphabetical order by the first author’s surname and chronologically per author. Publications by the same author(s) in the same year should be listed as 2001a, 2001b. Use the following system for arranging your references:

From periodicals: name(s) and initial(s) of all authors, year, full title, journal title abbreviated in accordance with international practice, volume number, first and last page numbers.

Single contribution in a book: name(s) and initial(s) of all authors, year, title of article, title of book, editor(s), volume number, publisher, place of publication, page numbers.

Book: name(s) and initial(s) of all authors, year, title, publisher, place of publication, pages.

-          Tables, Figures and Photographs: Should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals and prepared separately at the end of manuscript. All tables, figures (black-white) and photographs should be cited in the text. Please submit photographs as separate JPG, TIF or GIF files. If the figures are to be reduced in size, the legend should be big enough to make them readable after minimizing.

-          Proofreading: Author’s correction will be sent to the address indicated as the corresponding author’s address.

-          Copyright: Along with the corrections, the author will send to the Publisher a declaration form indicating that he/she approves the submitted copy for press and confirms that the paper has not been published before. The authors are requested to attach to their scientific papers a declaration that the paper does not infringe other persons’ copyrights.

Author’s copies: The author (together with the co-authors) receives 25 copies of the article free of charge. The abstract will be available in electronic form immediately after the publication of relevant issue. The full version will be available within 6 months at www.folia-forestalia-polonica.pl.
